Is it an Attractive Option?

Being your own boss . . . Owning your own business . . . Does this appeal to you?  If so, you are not alone.  A recent international study asked people which they would prefer:  being an employee or being self-employed.  A whopping 71% in the U.S. said they would prefer to be self-employed! 

And, yet, only about 10 percent in the country are self-employed.  Why?

There are many reasons.  For example, many people view it as too risky;  about half of new businesses disappear in the first five years.  Many are also concerned about the loss of health benefits from their present employer.  But, for others, the advantages of business ownership outweigh the risks:

• You are your own boss;
  
• Your hard work directly benefits you, rather than someone else;
  
• Your earning potential is expanded.
  
• Running a business can be exciting, challenging, and fulfilling.
